The Maple Festival
This weekend Matthew and I traveled over the mountain to Highland county, in order to celerbrate the Maple Festival. Matthew has been going since he was a little boy, and this year it was my second time! The Maple Festival is not complete with out friends and family, as you can see we had a little convoy of our own. One of the high lights is the pancake breakfast served with the local maple syrup. We had to wait in line for quite a while but was well worth the wait. Delicious pancakes!!
We visited one of the maple farms, and got to see first hand how the syrup is actually made. The buckets here are collecting the sap. They have to boil down 500 gallons of sap just to produce 10 gallons of syrup!! These trees sure do work hard, and for a long time too... We saw a tree that has been producing sap for the last 300 years, and has only stopped in the last couple of years!
Lots of crafters come out to sell their goods. We saw a lot of unique ideas, and enjoyed browsing through all the local creativity.
